Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni (6 March 1475-18 February 1564) commonly known as Michelangelo, was an Italian Renaissance painter, sculptor, architect, poet and engineer who exerted an unparalleled influence on the development of Western Art. Under Louis-Philippe, Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, Bernard, and Jean Goujon – four great figures of the Renaissance often appear in the decorative arts, so it is no surprise to find Michelangelo on this clock.
