J.M. Patterson, Toronto, Canada West, Empire case, rosewood veneer Wall clock. Seth Thomas (1785-1859) was a famous American clockmaker and a pioneer of mass production. He was born in Wolcott, Conn. in 1785. He started the clock business in 1807, working for clockmaker Eli Terry. In 1810, he bought Terry’s clock business, though choose to sell his partnership in 1812 and moved to Plymouth, Hollow, Conn. where he set up a factory to make metal-movement clocks. In 1853, Thomas officially incorporated the Seth Thomas Clock Company”.”
