Description

A Victorian gilt-brass ebonized quarter striking eight day clock, signed John Bennet. John Bennett lived from 1814-1897 and is a famous clockmaker, who had his store on 64/65 Cheapside London. At 16 years he took over the Clock and Watch business from his father. He was a third generation watchmaker and retailer, originally from Greenwich. The 9 inch wide engraved and silvered roman dial with subsidiaries for strike/silent and eight silvered bells, Cambridge chime selection to the arch, the substantial triple chain fusees movement with anchor escapement, striking the quarter on a nest of eight bells and the hours on a gong.Meas.: 18x30x8.5
