Description
A French gold and gilded chinoiserie mantel clock. The fashion for the Louis XVI style started around 1860. The clock case is made of gesso.
On the dial the name Maniere a Paris. Charles Guilliaume Maniere (1778-1812) was the son of a Parisian master clock maker.
On the movement, as you can see, is the name Planchon, Paris, which makes us believe that the clock case and dial are older than the movement.
Planchon is from the lsast quarter of the 19th C. Mathieu Planchon was a maker of great repute. He wrote several books on clockmaking and worked from 1865-1920.
