A very fine early ‘Act of Parliament’ clock, circa 1760.Althoughhh these cocks are popularly called ‘Act of Parliament’ clocks, after WilliamPitt’s introduction of tax on clocks and watches in 1797, they had been in existence for some years before this and were known as Tavern clocks.
