Raingo Freres is one of the eminent Raingo brothers, the leading French makers of these clocks at the time. Raingo was of French origin and fled to Gand, Belgium circa 1800 and almost certainly remained there for the rest of his life. He is also recorded as being clockmaker to the Duc de Chatres in 1823. The company became Raingo Freres in 1823. The company became Raingo Freres circa 1825 and operated from various Paris addresses. Raingo made besides clocks also Orreries: An orrery is a mechanical device that illustrates the relative positions and motions of the planets and moons in the solar system in a heliocentric model. They are typically driven by a clockwork mechanism with a globe representing the Sun at the centre, and with a planet at the end of the arms. The two best known examples of this type are in the Royal Collection and at the Soane Museum, London.
