Product Description

Moliere Tartuffe (imposter, French: Tartuffe, Ou l’Imposteur) is one of the most famous theatrical comedies of Moliere. Moliere wrote Tartuffe in 1664. Following its first performance the same year at the fetes held at Versailles, King Louis XIV almost immediately censored the play, probably due to the influence of the archbishop of Paris, Paul Philippe Hardouin de Beaumont de Perefixe, who was the King’s confessor and had been his tutor. Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, known by his stage name, Moliere, baptized January 15, 1622-February 17, 1673) was a French playwright and actor who is considered to be one of the greatest masters of comedy in the Western Literature.
