Product Description

Achille Brocot (1817-1878 was a French Clock maker and mathemathician, the eldest son of L.G. Brocot. In 1856 he was treasurer to La Societe des Horologers in Paris, awarded First Class medal at the 1855 Paris Exhibition. His trademark was advertised in the 1864 Almanach Artistique as AB in a star. He was the inventor of the pin pallet escapement that was designed for use in pendulum clocks. In 1860 he invented the Brocot Escapement, and the Brocot suspension (spring blade pendulum suspension). In 1861: the dicovery of the Stern-Brocot arbor (new method of calculating cogs by approximation), independently of German Mathematician Moritz-Stern who discovered it in 1658. The dial is signed: Menet a Lons-Le-Saunier.
